Anker’s 150W charger

How I charge my devices has entirely changed thanks to Anker's 150W charger.

Let's face it: talking about charges isn't that interesting. They are a requirement for any contemporary digital product and are used by everyone. But did you read an entire article where the author gushed about how awesome a charger is? It's a little nerdy

Well, buckle up, nerds, because that’s exactly what I’m doing for the next few hundred words. A few months ago, Anker sent me the 747 Charger — the latest addition to its GaNPrime lineup of chargers. It’s probably smaller than the fast charger you’re currently using, has significantly more ports, and is a whole lot smarter, too. It’s not the flashiest piece of tech I’ve used this year, but easily one of the most impactful.

The biggest immediate benefit of the Anker 747 is its port selection — flaunting three USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Amazon has no shortage of multi-device chargers with five, six, or even ten ports, but those are almost always limited to slow USB-A outputs.

The 747 is noteworthy because it offers three high-speed USB-C outputs as well as a full-size USB-A connection in case you prefer it. The fact that Anker managed to squeeze all those ports into such a tiny chassis is even more astounding.

The Anker 747 is smaller than the 140W and 96W chargers Apple offers with the M1 MacBook Pro even though it has a maximum power output of 150W. Also keep in mind that they only offer one USB-C port and less overall power output. It's not even all that much bigger than Apple's 30W charger, in all honesty. I have been using it a lot because it has an absurd number of connectors and power for a charger of its size.

The Anker 747 is always plugged into the outlet by my nightstand when I'm at home. It offers two free ports for when I need to attach something else, plus it powers an Apple Watch charger and a MagSafe charger for my iPhone. And the 747s helped me to reduce the number of charges I need to pack when I travel from three to four to just one.

Although the extra chargers didn't take up much space in my bag or suitcase, the comfort of mind is priceless. I only need to check that I packed the Anker 747 now rather than double-checking that I have every single charger I'll need for a trip. If I did, I'd be ready to go.

But it’s not just the Anker 747’s design that’s kept me coming back. I also love the charger because of how fast it is. If you’re just using one port, the Anker 747 has a max power output of 100W. But if you use two, three, or all four ports, it kicks out 150W of charging horsepower. That’s more than enough speed to fast-charge an iPhone 14 ProPixel 7 Pro, or Galaxy Z Fold 4. Hell, you can even quickly charge large tablets and laptops like a 2022 iPad Pro or M2 MacBook Air.

What’s especially cool, though, isn’t the rate at which the Anker 747 chargers devices, but how that charging happens. Using its PowerIQ 4.0 tech, the Anker 747 can detect the current battery life of devices plugged into it and prioritize charge speed to whatever needs it the most.

Consider plugging in an iPhone 14 that has 50% battery life left and a Pixel 7 that has 10% battery life left. The Anker 747 understands the Pixel is lower and will charge it more quickly as a result. Additionally, you never have to explicitly activate this feature because it's constantly active in the background and prepared to use.

This offers a degree of durability that I value much, much more than a classic battery pack with a transparent design despite being significantly less spectacular. When it comes time to charge, there is no room for speculation. I simply plug everything in, go about my business, and trust that it will all charge promptly and effectively.
